SUMMARY:Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai and Dvorak’s Mass in D
DESCRIPTION:Haydn Missa Sancti Nicolai\n\nMissa Sancti Nicolai is the only
early Mass of Joseph Haydn  that can be directly connected to the Esterh
ázy court. It was most likely intended for the Feast of Saint Nicholas on
December 6\, 1772\, which was also the name day of Kapellmeister Haydn’
s employer Prince Nicolaus I Esterházy. The mass is quintessentially Hayd
n in its energy\, tunefullness and infectious joy. Not one to be missed.\n
\n\nDvorak Mass in D \n\n\nThe Mass was first performed in September 18
 87. Dvorak wrote it for the limited resources available to him in the Czec
h countryside and in doing so has created '... the specific atmosphere of
the Czech countryside: not a stately ritual ceremony\, as befitting the P
rague Metropolitan cathedral\, or the concentrated sublime contemplation o
f a monastic setting\, but the spirit of a smiling\, pleasant region of hi
lls and woods and little baroque churches with folk-art decoration\, the
expression of the wisdom and security of his native land'\n\n\nFor full ev
